I picked up an Alpha 87A that was at an auction for a friend that had passed away several years ago. I finally got it on the air just after the first of the year. It’s not hard to see why these amp’s were so well liked by everyone that ever owned one. It auto tunes to the band and segment when you just send one dit on CW or just key the mic on SSB. Great amp! Here is a photo of it loafing along on 160 running legal limit.
It’s hard to believe it has been a another year and I haven’t posted much to the site. The SMC Fest was last weekend and I was not able to attend this year. I have been undergoing a battle with the Big C and was in the hospital over last weekend for another chemo treatment. It is working and that is the good news. The bad news is that it has kept me from getting much anything done this year. Hopefully next year will bring better things.
The 2017 edition of the Society of Midwest Contesters Fest was held yesterday at Normal IL. Over 90 SMC members attended. There were many great presentations by seasoned, as well as new contesters. If your interested in Radiosport, check out the SMC and join the fun!
Several months back I started uploading all my logs to LoTW. I found out that I was just a few digital contacts short of the WAS Triple Play award. After finding JT65-HF and the alert that goes along with it, it didn’t take too long to complete the award!
My Original WAS was issued in the early 1990’s. A pair of them for the standard WAS and the “2 Letter Extra Class” WAS for the “GERATOL Award” (#1474). I got the 160 meter WAS when I got the Triple Play and couldn’t believe that no more than #1530 have applied for a WAS for that band.
The Jacksonville ARS will hold Field Day at the Prairieland Heritage grounds again this year. A couple of years ago we were in the old bandstand that was resurrected from the Smithsonian that you see in this picture. This year we are again in the building far back to the east of this bandstand. Come out and see us on June 24, 2017.
This is a group photo taken last weekend at the Society of Midwest Contesters fest in Normal IL. It was great to meet several of the op’s that I have worked before on the air in contest. If your interested in Radiosport, this is the group to join! www.w9smc.com
